The Poetic Edda: Vafthrudnir's Sayings, Grimnir's Sayings, Skirnir's Journey, and Harbard's Song (Mythic Mind)
Join Andrew Snyder and members of the Mythic Mind Fellowship as we work our way through the Poetic Edda. In this conversation, we discuss Vafthrudnir's Sayings, Grimnir's Sayings, Skirnir's Journey, and Harbard's Song.
Odin wagers his head in a contest of lore with a giant, sits between two fires and reveals the shape of the nine worlds, sends a servant to win a bride for Freyr, and trades insults with Thor across a ferry crossing. Wisdom poems and comic poems sit side by side here, and both are hungry to know how the cosmos holds together.
We read these old northern poems in a Christian light, not as revelation but as refracted images: glimpses of a world that is ordered, threatened, and waiting, which the true Myth fulfills in Christ.
