The Poetic Edda: Sigurd, Brynhild's Ride to Hell, The Poem and Greenlandic Lay of Atli, and more (Mythic Mind)
Join Andrew Snyder and members of the Mythic Mind Fellowship as we work our way through the Poetic Edda. In this conversation, we discuss A Short Poem about Sigurd, Brynhild's Ride to Hell, The Death of the Niflungs, The Third Poem of Gudrun, Oddrun's Lament, The Poem of Atli, and The Greenlandic Lay of Atli.
After Sigurd's death the story darkens. Brynhild rides to Hel to tell her side of it, the Niflungs fall at Atli's court, and Gudrun, Oddrun, and the two Atli poems carry grief and vengeance to their bitter end.
We talk about why these poems feel like tragedy without resolution, and how the Christian story honors that northern courage while offering what it never had: hope beyond the burning hall.
