The Poetic Edda: Death of Sinfiotli, Prophecy of Gripir and Lays of Regin, Fafnir, and Sigrdrifa (Mythic Mind)
Join Andrew Snyder and members of the Mythic Mind Fellowship as we work our way through the Poetic Edda. In this conversation, we discuss The Death of Sinfiotli, The Prophecy of Gripir, the Lays of Regin, Fafnir, and Sigrdrifa, and Fragment of a Poem about Sigurd.
Here the Sigurd story begins in earnest: Sinfiotli's death, Gripir's foretelling of Sigurd's whole life, the cursed gold of Andvari, the slaying of the dragon Fafnir, and the valkyrie Sigrdrifa's counsel to the young hero.
Fate hangs over every step. We talk about the difference between the northern sense of doom and the Christian trust in providence, and why Sigurd the dragon slayer has fascinated Christian storytellers for so long.
