Ransom is kidnapped into the heavens and discovers that Earth is the silent planet: bent, cut off, and haunted by a cosmology modernity forgot how to see.

In this Mythic Mind lecture from the Fiction and Philosophy of C.S. Lewis course, Dr. Andrew Snyder (professor of philosophy and theology) walks Out of the Silent Planet as story and medieval vision: the pedestrian philologist as pilgrim, Malacandra’s unfallen hnau, Weston and Devine’s imperial bentness, and why looking up at the heavens as hierarchy still matters.

Topics include cosmic order versus modern space-as-void, language and meeting the other, and how the Ransom trilogy begins by unmaking terrestrial presumption.
