Kierkegaard Begins Next Week

Friends,

Two new episodes this week, and then the Kierkegaard course opens.

Why Socialism Is Poison to the Soul (Mythic Mind, ep. 192)
In Mythic Mind ep. 192 challenge a "win at all cost" approach that encourages the political Right to embrace socialism. I try to grant the real injuries first. Then I argue that envy baptized as entitlement, and power that treats neighbors as tools still shrink the self before God, even when the cause feels righteous. Assistance comes from Plato, Aristotle, Lewis, Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky, and Tolkien.

Rashomon: How the Psyche Rewrites the Truth (Mythic Mind Movies, ep. 30)
On Mythic Mind Movies, Kit, David, and I talk through Kurosawa’s Rashomon. We tend to think memory simply records what happened. The film shows something more unsettling: people can witness the same event and remember it differently, not only because they lie, but because pride, shame, fear, and self-preservation shape what they are able to see. That does not mean objective truth disappears. The murder happened. What changes is the story each witness tells in order to remain the hero, the victim, the honorable man, or the innocent observer. The film’s final answer is not perfect knowledge of the past. It is the choice to do the good that stands before you.

The Kierkegaard course begins next week

This is the course I have been pointing toward all fall. Eight weeks in The Concept of Anxiety and The Sickness unto Death. Anxiety, despair, faith, and what it actually means to become a self. The podcasts have been the invitation, this is where we sit down and do the reading together.

Fellow and Companion memberships include Kierkegaard, every Academy course currently available, and every course still coming. Companions also get early access to completed courses and a featured profile on the site.

Fellow is $17 a month (or $149 a year). Companion is $29 a month (or $290 a year). Either one opens Kierkegaard along with Tolkien, Lewis, the Silmarillion, and what follows.

If you have been waiting for a reason to join at that level, this is it. We begin next week.
