## In this episode

Lewis called That Hideous Strength a fairy-tale for grown-ups, and it feels nothing like Out of the Silent Planet or Perelandra. The last Ransom novel drops from deep heaven onto England: Belbury’s technocratic evil, St. Anne’s remnant, and the old conflict of Logres against Britain.

In this Mythic Mind introduction from the Fiction and Philosophy of C.S. Lewis course, Dr. Andrew Snyder (professor of philosophy and theology) orients readers before the deep dive: why the tone shifts, how The Abolition of Man underwrites the plot, and what to watch as Mark and Jane Studdock enter the story.

Topics include planetary influences landing on earth, modern power without the Tao, and how to start the strangest book in the Ransom trilogy.

In 2025, BBC put out an audio drama adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s That Hideous Strength. This is one of my favorite books, so I was naturally excited about the prospects here. I wanted this to succeed.
